Independence Works is an established network of occupational therapists/case managers.

We have proven skills in rehabilitation, working with individuals (both adults and children) who experience severe life-changing injuries such as acquired brain injury, amputation, spinal cord injury, complex orthopaedic injuries, sensory impairment, chronic pain and mental health conditions. A significant number of our cases focus on vocational rehabilitation.

We work closely with the client to assist their recovery following an accident, focusing on return to work.

We design a specific rehabilitation programme with each client, tailored to their individual needs and circumstances.

As occupational therapists we are specialists in rehabilitation; we take a holistic approach.

Independence works has developed a vocational rehabilitation toolkit as a reference for all our members to share knowledge and expertise.

Efficient data analysis allows us to spot trends, evaluate service quality and improve our case outcomes.

As occupational therapists, our focus is on ‘all the things we need, want or have to do’. (Wilcock, 2006)

Independence Works analyses its outcome data very carefully and has done so for more than ten years. We know what works and why and can prove it.

Our goal is to help our clients to live their best life – it's very personal.

When appropriate, we visit the client in their homes, at work or in the community – from Guernsey to the Outer Hebrides, from Belfast to York and back.

Independence Works was founded in 2013 as a company limited by guarantee, structured to operate on a not-for-profit basis for the benefit of its members.

This organisation functions under the stewardship of directors who act as trustees, ensuring adherence to its articles of association and membership terms.

All occupational therapists in the Independence Works network maintain a diverse portfolio of work. This approach ensures that they preserve their professional independence and remain familiar with a broad spectrum of working environments. By engaging in varied practices, our therapists bring dynamic and adaptable expertise to their case management roles, enriching the services they provide to their clients.

All our case managers are regularly audited and undertake annual peer review, continuing professional development and supervision. We are committed to providing an excellent professional service to our clients: the injured person.

We are unique among the health professions because as occupational therapists/case managers we have a broad education in the health, social, psychological and occupational sciences which equips us with the attitudes, skills, and knowledge to work collaboratively with people to bring about positive life changes. We focus on what is important to the client, helping them to live their lives in a way that is meaningful and satisfying for them. We offer a sensitive, collaborative approach with our clients to help them make lifestyle adjustments and access the support they need after an injury.
